Adam Peacock Memorial Football Match

A football match and evening event was held on 7th June 2014 at Filtrona in South Shields. The event was organised by Martin Cameron and Gemma MacKay. This was the 4th year this event took place, and was held in honor and memory of Adam Peacock who passed away in 2012 after a 3-year battle with MND.

The day event was a family fun-day and football tournament.

The football tournament consisted of 4 teams made up of Adam’s friends and ex-team mates.

There was a bouncy castle, face painting, craft table, cake stalls, Tombola etc, to keep the rest of the family entertained during the knock-out sessions. It was a massive success with about 200 people braving the bad weather! On the evening there was music & dancing with raffles and auctions to help boost the funds being raised. Again this was attended by around 200 people.

The whole day turned out to be the most successful event they’ve held raising a massive £5,800 for the MND Association.

As well as organising this annual event we wanted to do something different to raise awareness of motor neurone disease and raise money for the charity.

Adam was a very talented footballer as well as an exceptional coach, his passion was teaching youngsters how to play the game and that is what he did as a career. They therefore decided to sponsor a junior football team, South Shields Under 15’s.

Throughout the 2014/15 season their kits will display the FOA MND SUPPORT GROUP (a trust that was been set up to support Adam) and they will also display the MNDA logo on their kits. They play throughout Tyne & Wear area and are a very good team so hopefully this will help raise awareness of MND and of the work of done by the MND Association.
