Great North Run 2021
The Great North Run was back up and running this year, not quite as usual, a new course and a new finishing line (mixed feelings from the runners on this) but again the MND Association welcomed over 200
runners raising funds and awareness.
The runners were of all ages, from teen to well past retirement age. They come in all shapes and sizes and levels of athleticism. For some the run is rather like a morning workout. But for many, many others it is the culmination of months of training and hard physical effort.
However, all were motivated by an intense desire to rid us of the cruel disease that is MND. Yet nonetheless GNR is a joyful celebration of the work that is being done and of the people who are living with the disease.
Our hospitality tent in the charity village was a happy, sociable place where runners took refreshment and lingered to chat with others, as well as to rest aching limbs. The Great North Run is one of the biggest events of the year, both for the Association and for many of those running. You – our runners, together with your families, friends, colleagues and other supporters – are essential in keeping it as a major contributor to the fight against MND.
You are all needed and valued.
We would like to give a HUGE thank you to all who took part in the race, not forgetting all the volunteers who manned the route, finishing line and hospitality tent to cheer on and support all those brave people who ran the race for MND.
