Martial Arts Kickathon raises £1,000

Young Martial Arts students in Newcastle have raised the magnificent sum of £1,000 for the fight against MND.

The event was Kickathon 2010 and the ages of those taking part ranged from 4 to 28 years.

The participants comprised Taekwondo students and Kickboxing students together with the Tae Kwon Do Tigers, who are aged 4 to 6 years.

The cheque for £1,000 was presented to Branch President Ken Hylton at the Newcastle Kickathon Awards ceremony on 19 April. The photo shows Ken with some of the young Tigers (including several prize-winners) and older students and instructors.

As a matter of interest, the Tigers’ Organiser, Faye Farthing, is herself a leading figure in the UK martial arts world. She holds a 1st class honours degree in Sport & Exercise Development and is a member of the England Taekwon Do Team. She won European Silver medals in 2005 and 2007 and a World Bronze in 2006. She is a UK Sports Coach working with disabled athletes and an Instructor in Korean Kickboxing as well as Taekwon Do. She has a special interest in Child Protection.

To all the young people who took part in raising this wonderful donation – and to all the parents, helpers and organisers who were involved – we give a very big Thank You.
