The Dane Charity Bike Ride 2021 – St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay – 175 miles
Team Dane set off from St Bees on the west coast, super excited and full of enthusiasm. This was soon cut short after 500 yards as we hit the steepest hill of the day to climb out of St Bees, but after conquering that the day flew by and so did the miles, eventually getting to Appleby, covering 68 miles.
We set off heading towards Yarm. The mood was a bit tentative as we all knew we had to climb up to Tan Hill the highest pub in Great Britain, before descending into Reeth for a much needed lunch, it was very difficult and a challenge, some very big climbs, but everyone made it with such a fantastic effort, especially the older and less fit members of the team. From there on it was a lovely flat ride into North Yorkshire.
The Final day to Robin Hoods Bay was the final chapter of a great weekend, well that was until we hit twenty hills along the way. It was brutally hard, mentally difficult but in a strange way rewarding.
We finally made it to the East coast, the sun was shining, the bay was bustling with people and after a few choice words amongst us, everyone realised what an amazing achievement they’d just accomplished over the 3 days and were asking “What are we doing it for next year?”, which is a testament to the Dane employees who put themselves through this every year to raise money for such fantastic charities.
We would like to thank everyone who has donated, Dane employees, family, friends, suppliers, for all your support it means a lot to us and we know it means a lot more to the people of the family members MND has affected or is affecting.
It gives us great pleasure to donate our gathered sponsorship funds of £2,336.00 to Newcastle MND Care Centre.
