Tyne & Wear Branch Walk to D’feet MND – Annual Sponsored Walk

Group photo of the walkers

On 12 June, 2016, a rather damp Sunday morning, 74 like-minded people and a smattering of dogs gathered at Newburn Riverside Park for the Tyne & Wear Branch annual sponsored walk.  This 6 mile walk starts at Newburn and walks along the river onto the waggonway to Wylam and back.

At the half way point at Wylam Riverside Park, we stopped for a picnic lunch and a well-earned rest. The trick was trying to find a dry spot to sit!  The sun made brief appearance but soon disappeared. I’m not quite sure that the ice cream van was ready for the custom he had but I’m sure he didn’t complain!

After refuelling and a chance to catch up with other walkers, we all headed back to Newburn.

We had a fantastic turnout this year despite the inclement weather and I would like to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who took part and who sponsored people taking part.  The total at the present stands in excess of £2000!  I will keep you updated with the total over the coming weeks.
